Today it is the great celebration at our university – Maslenitsa – a holiday rich in traditions. It is the Russian Sun Festival – a celebration of the end of winter chills and the start of Spring, of warmth, of hope, of growth.
On the square in front of the main academic building of the university the main festivities have begun! All departments have contributed to the holiday: dancing in circles, folk songs singing, regaling guests with self-baked pancakes and even drinking tea from the real Russian samovars! Of course, there have been effigies of Maslenitsa all over the place. The culmination of the festival program has become a tug of war in which some brave young men have taken part.
The atmosphere of the sudents’ Maslenitsa is incredible and hard to describe. It is full of fun and old-time traditions.
